New House

Well Jeff and I are still in ahhh and waiting for our supposed "vacation" to be over as we just can't believe the new Galva residence is really ours. Dalton is enjoying the new house as well. He told us on Sunday as we sat at the buffet in the kitchen eating supper...."its like we are a family"...as we never really sat together for supper at the old place because he would eat and watch cartoons, but I have taken that away with the new place. He also noticed that he doesn't have a "spinner" (ceiling fan) in his room and that "is just not cool mom"! We also went to Nana Hertz's house this week to cut corn for the freezer for the winter (which Dalton states we don't need to do because "we aren't chipmunks mom") and Dalton flipped out and wanted to go home because he thinks we are going to move back to the old place without telling him!! LOL He's so darn cute. I still don't have pictures up yet of the new place but that's because I still can't find the camera box....so hopefully soon!

LOL Well hopefully I'll get new house pictures on here soon....but I have to find the camera first!!!!

On Monday, March 16th, Dalton and I stayed home and hung out with Jeff, since he was leaving for Kansas City on Tuesday. We worked outside in the backyard and cleaned up the garage. Dalton took a nap and during that time Jeff finished cleaning the garage. When Dalton woke up and then went outside to the garage he looked at Jeff and said "daddy how did you do that....the garage was a mess...where did it all go???" Jeff and I just laughed at him! He also thought he should wear my sunglasses!!!

Hearts at Home Conference

Well the weekend of March 13th was just wonderful!!! We spent all day (5:30 a.m. - midnight....we are troopers!!) Friday in Bloomington, Illinois at the Hearts at Home Conference. There were over 4,000 moms there and over 12,000 children represented!! That's just amazing!! My sister, Jillian and Christi attended and had a wonderful time. There were a few times I thought I was going to fall out of my chair laughing at Dr. Kevin Lehman. If you have never heard of him, you need to look up his website and check out his books....they are well worth it. The music was by Go Fish and they have wonderful cd's for children. I also got to attend a class titled "Red Hot Monogamy" by Jim and Pam Farrell and I know I fell off my chair a couple of times listening to their phenomenal seminar!!!

Winter was Fun, but we are ready for Spring!!!

Dalton had a blast this winter going down Nana and Papa Hertz's hills! One Friday night, Nana picked him up from the sitters unexpectantly, so he had no snow pants or boots because he wore his tennis shoes that day. But that evening after dinner he begged Papa to take him down the sledding hills. So Papa and Nana rolled him up in a blanket, coat and mittens and then loaded the sled with towels to keep him warm! Papa pushed him down the hill about 3 times and Dalton was excited about the trips!!!! He then begged for hot chocolate coffee!!! He has very dedicated grandparents. The above photo is one of the many times he decided to stand up as he was going down the hill...he is such a daredevil and I am standing at the bottom of this hill screaming "sit down or your going to break another leg"!!!

We are ready for it to get nice and warm so we can start walking, blowing bubbles and playing out in the yard!

First blog article!!!

The below article I wrote and it was posted on 24/7 moms blog site!!! I'm so excited as it is my first article. It was posted on 1/27/09....thought I would share it!
Creative Ideas & Projects to Organize Kids School Papers, Artwork & Small Bedroom HasslesBy: Stacy L. Hertz
I am a mother of a three year old and I can’t believe how much paperwork he brings home between daycare, swim lessons and music class and he’s not even in school yet. Afraid of losing important dates, as I knew it would only get worse as he becomes older, I decided to make a binder to keep track of all his paperwork. I bought a three ring binder from Wal-Mart and a package of 3 ring punched one sided folders. I labeled each folder with the person’s name that lives in our household. When I’m handed a reminder note that my son has pictures for class, I record the date on the calendar and then it goes into his folder for reference. The folders hold dentist and doctor appointments, birthday invites, library reading dates and more. My folder for instance has my appointments and my husband’s are in his. I keep the binder with my calendar on our desk where everyone can view it. I purge as needed and don’t have paper stacks anymore on the counters.

Artwork

Now what about that artwork? My little guy is coloring and painting new pictures all the time and at daycare they make something for most holidays. I love everything he brings home, but sometimes the refrigerator looks a little overwhelmed!!Here are a couple of ways I like to keep his artwork on display but not feel weighed down with paperwork:

● Hang a piece of yarn, rope or fishing line across your child’s wall, up towards the ceiling, with tacks. Then use clothespins to hang up their artwork. When they want to put up new projects go through and purge what is not needed and keep your favorites.

● Now where to keep those favorites? Use an expandable filed folder with dividers, from any office supply store, and store by years. Another great way to keep artwork in one place is by purchasing a frame from dynamicframes.com, that can hold up to 50 to 100 pieces of artwork at one time.

Bedroom Hassles

Even though my son is not in school yet, he already dons a backpack for daycare. Between the backpack, shoes, coats, etc. I have a hard time finding my entryway or my son’s room. Therefore the following tips might help you out in the same situation.
● Use a hanging shoe organizer in your entryway closet for all gloves, scarves and hats.
● Use a hanging sweater organizer and give each child a cubby hole. This is where school work, backpacks, gym shoes & even small instruments can go.
● Buy tubs in various sizes, one for Legos, one for cars, and so on. Take a picture of each toy and tape it to the outside of the tub and label each tub with a permanent marker. This way your kids will know where their toys go when done playing.
